For existing educators
Thinking about switching family day home agencies?
A change should begin with clear questions about your contract, continuity for families, readiness, and the support you need next.
No SMADA transfer fee. No SMADA registration fee.
Eligible educators transferring from another agency who apply to SMADA by August 31, 2026 can have SMADA’s transfer and registration fees waived.
Start with a direct conversation about what is not working now and what SMADA would do differently—no pressure and no bullshit.
Start your applicationOffer applies to eligible educators transferring from another agency who submit a SMADA application by August 31, 2026. It covers SMADA’s own transfer and registration fees only. Eligibility is confirmed in writing before transfer and does not remove obligations or costs under an educator’s current agency agreement or from third parties.
Start with your current agreement
Review your current contract and any notice, transition or record-handling obligations before making a change. Do not assume another agency can make promises about timing or approval before it has reviewed your situation.
Ask the right support questions
- Who will be your main agency contact?
- How does the agency support educators with standards, visits and documentation?
- How are parent inquiries and placements handled?
- What information is needed before a transition can be considered?
How SMADA approaches the conversation
SMADA can talk through your experience and goals without asking you to make an immediate decision. Any approval or transition remains subject to the applicable contract process and Alberta requirements.
For context on the provincial agency-and-educator model, see Alberta’s childcare system overview.
Talk through your next step with SMADA.
SMADA is a licensed Alberta Family Day Home Agency serving Calgary and surrounding communities. An application starts a conversation; it does not promise approval, funding, or placement.
